A college in upstate New York is shortening the work week to 32 hours, but pay and benefits are staying the same.
D'Youville College in Buffalo (name sounds made up but we'll roll with it), will be testing the 32-hour work week over the next 6 months with 140 of their staff members.
For those of you bad at math, a typical 8-hour work day means that this is a 4-day workweek.
The School is hoping the shorter week will bring in high-quality workers who want a better work-life balance.
This isn’t the first time it’s been tried. A notable example is a trial in Iceland that showed happiness went up in workers while productivity remained constant.
I personally love this idea and think we will see more of these trends with employers, just like providing the work from home option. Now any company that doesn't offer WFH is facing a competitive disadvantage with hiring.
Elon has a great quote that if you give yourself a month to clean your house, it will take a month. If you give yourself 3 hours, it will take 3 hours.
